Exploring Cannabis: In The kitchen

Learning about ways to use cannabis can be exciting and confusing. This versitile herb can be used for a plethora of treatments and recreational use. When I first started smoking marijuana it was recreational to say the least. There wasn’t any information available to me about the strains or ways to use cannabis. One day a colleage of mine told me he had a “creeper”. It puzzled me, so I asked about this joint and why the suspicious name. A creeper is strin the creeps up on you and the high is intense. As I got wiser, I started to learn more about strains and different uses. In the beginning it was all about smoking weed, then I became fascinated by the recipes I had recieved from family and friends. Learning how to use marijuana in a positive and conscious way helped me to monitor my use and what want to use to relieve symptoms of chronic pain, anxiety, isomnia and depression. Most of the best strains for euphoria and creativity to enjoy during the day are a sativa strain or hybrid. I have been really excited about the energizing Frostbite because it is strong enough to smoke in the morning to increase mobility and appetite. There is something wonderful about the effect this strain has. It’s a great wake and bake flower to help motivate you to get out of bed, if you suffer from chronic pain. After the first puff, you’ll feel enouraged to get the day started. If you don’t usually have an appetite in the morning before a busy day, this strain will help induce hunger. When the day starts to get hectic and the pain starts breaking through, the sour patch kids gummies can help you get through your day. I usually keep a few low dose (5mg) candies with me during the day, so i can have one or two during my lunch break. When the day is over, we can feel either defeated or elevated by our interactions throughout the day. If you’re sore and tired afer a long days work and you just want to relax, our Watermeon strain can be the perfect end to our day. A soothing, rich indica with an embracable scent. The sedatively strong indica can melt away the aches and pains of the day. If you are not a fan of smoking cannabis, you can try edibles. The cookies and candies are great if you want to use scent free and discreet cannabis. Sometimes we enjoy making our own unique treats at home, so for all you “do it yourself” types, I have decided to focus this article on some recipes I’ve tried and tested. The following are recipes for different parts of the day and some easy versitile recipes for you to get creative with.

Breakfast of Champs

For those mornings when you nee something tastey and medicated, I havee selected two quick and easy recipes for breakfast. Not everyone enjoys oatmeal, so I have included  recipe for pancakes as well. You’ll need to learn how to make CannaMilk for the oatmeal and CannaFlour for the pancakes. Before you can make Aunt MJ’s Perfect Porridge, you will have to make a batch of Canna milk for your morning oatmeal.

How to make CannaMilk

You will need:

  • 1/2 cup of almonds
  • 3 cups water
  • 1-4 grams of gound cannabis, depending on desired potency

You will also need a cheesecloth or strainer and a food processor. First, put your almonds and water in a food processor and blend until it resembles milk. Then strain the milk in strainer (or cheesecloth) into a small pot. Put the milk on medium heat, add your ground cannabis and reduce heat. Simmer for 2 hours, stirring frequently. Once complete, remove from heat and chill. This recipe can also be used as a milk replacement in any recipe.

Now for the energy boosting oatmeal. Depending on your preference, you may want to add dried fruit, nuts, seeds and so on. I will keep it simple so you can modify it to your liking. Any strong sativa strain would be good, but I prefer Frostbite for both flavor and effects.

Aunt MJ’s Perfect Porridge

What you’ll need:

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 1/2 cups CannaMilk
  • 1 1/2 cups quick oats
  • 1 tsp salt
  • optional toppings

Mix your Cannamilk and water in a saucepan and bring to a simmer. Next, add your oats and salt; bring to a boil for 5 minutes, stirring occationally. Once boiling, reduce heat to low-medium and simmer 5 more minutes. Turn off the heat, cover with  lid and let stand 5 minutes. Add toppings and enjoy!   More of a pancake kind of morning? I still enjoy mking mickey mouse pancakes, if i have the time. This recipe can be topped with nearly anything. Whipped cream, fruit, syrup or all of the above. However, in order to make this recipe it would be important that you know how to make CannaFlour. It’s very simple.

CannaFlour
  • 1/2 cup decrboxylized cannabis
  • 1 cup flour

Make sure you dont have and sees or sems in your dried cannabis. Grind the dried flower in a coffee grinder until it has turned into a powder. Sift cannabis powder and flour together unti it is evenly mixed. Works the same as regular flour. * Decarboxylized cannabis is a way of activating the THC.  Set oven to 220 F, put sugar leaf trim, ground bud, or kief on a baking sheet lined with partchment paper.

Pot Infused Pancakes

What you need:

  • 1 1/4 cups CannaFlour
  • 2 tbsp white sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 1 tbsp oil

How to make them: Mix you dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl, and then whisk together wet ingredients in a smaller bowl. Make a well in the middle of the dry ingredients. Pour your wet ingredients into the well. Heat a lightly oiled frying pan over medium heat. Drop your bater into the pan spoonfuls at a time. Cook until bubles form and the edges are dry. Flip and cook until golden brown on the bottom. Repet until batter is gone. Serve immediately.

CannaButter

This is another versitile recipe you can add to any recipes or on top of anything you desire. You can use 1 lb of butter, or vegan butter. Melt the butter on VERY LOW heat in a saucepan until it is simmering. Add 1/2 oz of finely ground cannabis and let simmer 30 minutes. Once the butter has turned green, pour it trough a strainer or cheesecloth. Chill in the fridge until solid. Voila!

Lunch / Dinner “Specials”

Here are a couple recipes you can make for a picnic lunch or dinner. This cannabis infused meal will be the life of your next dinner party! Feel free to modify these recepies to your taste. Exchange berries for cherry tomatoes and shredded brussel sprouts, or try adding a little sriracha to the dressing for heat. Savory Sativa Salad and Reeferberry Vinagrette Prep Time: 20 min      Ready in: 20 min         Serving: 6 – 2tbsp Infused Raspberry Vinaigrette

  • 1/2 cup raspberries fresh
  • 1/4 cup cannabis infused oil
  • 1/8 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon agave nectar or maple syrup
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt or to taste
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper or to taste

Preparing the Dressing Whiz  all dressing ingredients together in a blender or food processor until emulsified. Set aside.   Sweet and Savory Salad

  • 6 cups spinach leaves fresh
  • 1 cucumber medium, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 avocado medium, peeled, pitted and diced
  • 1/2 red onion medium, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup blueberries fresh
  • 1/4 cup strawberries fresh, sliced
  • 1/4 cup raspberries fresh
  • 1/4 cup almonds, sliced, toasted
  • 1/4 cup diced feta cheese (optional)

Making the Salad In a large bowl, toss together all ingredients, except almonds. Pour in dressing and gently toss to coat all ingredients. Divide among 4 salad plates, and sprinkle toasted almonds and diced feta over the top of the four salads. Serve immediately. You could even garnish the salad with fresh cannabis leaves.

Poulet de Cannabis

Wondering what to make for dinner? Maye you are a couple looking to relax and enjoy an uplifting meal. Perhaps, you just love marijuana and you’ll find any way to infuse it into your daily routine. It’s game night and everyone is coming over! This recipe is a pleasantly flavourful dinner which is perfect for a late evening dinner with a signifacant other or other adult friends. There is no way you will be stoned out of your rocker, but you will definitely feel the benefits of the cannabis. Beware , you may have to put some aside for muches later. I have also tried this chicken recipe using a Jamaican jerk sauce, beginners may not want to add too much heat to this savory dish. Prep Time: 10 min      Cook time: 50 min      Total Time: 1 hour      Serves: 6 What you need:

  • 3 pounds chicken pieces
  • 1 small bunch cilantro
  • 1 small bunch Italian parsley
  • 4 large green onions minced
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1/4 cup cannabis infused olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

How to make it: Season chicken with salt and pepper . Bake at 375 degrees F for about 50 minutes (bone-in chicken pieces) In a blender or a food processor, combine  cilantro, parsley, green onions, garlic, lime juice, cannabis oil, salt, and pepper. Put cooked chicken in a large bowl. Toss  the cooked chicken in the green sauce, much like you would toss a salad. Serve. After Dinner For dessert, you can use the cannabutter recipe in cookies, brownies, cakes and icing.  You may want to try making caramels for adding to ice cream or your morning coffee. I love these caramels, but they can be very potent. This is not for the inexperienced cannabis user. Caramel Candaze Ingredients

  • 1 cup of cannabutter
  • 1 cup of corn syrup
  • Dash of salt
  • 2 1/2 cups of brown sugar
  • 14 oz of condensed milk
  • 1 tsb of vanilla

How to do it: The first step is to melt your 1 cup of cannabutter down in a medium sized pot on low-medium heat. Mix in the dash of salt and 2 1/2 cups of brown sugar. Once these ingredients are combined, stir in the milk and corn syrup. Be sure to consistently continue to stir the mixture throughout the entire process. Since this is a small amount (45-50 caramels) , let this mixture heat up on medium to high heat for around 12 to 15 minutes. The mixture should start to turn into a goo and harden. Now, mix in the 1 tablespoon of vanilla. Once the vanilla has been evenly dispersed, pour the caramel into a 9×13 inch pan and let them cool.

What Would You Like To Drink?

Looking for a refreshment? Try cannabis infuse lemonade! Basically, you just need to make a cannabis syrup by combining sugar, water and cannabis at a low boil. Then add your cannabis syrup to your normal lemonade mixture, either just in a glass or in the whole pitcher. Coffee or Tea? People have been making cannabis teas for thousands of years. It’s one of the most common way for people to drink cannabis. My suggestion is to purchase any of our honey’s available. This way you can get what you are looking for, whether its 1:1, or CBD / THC dominant. Try one teaspoon at a time until you reach your desired potency. If the potency is right but you want your tea or coffee sweeter, add regular honey or sugar to taste. Busy active lifestyle? Get on the go with a protien shake. First, you will need to make some cannabis coconut oil by boiling regular coconut oil and marijuana together. Then add your cooled cannabis coconut oil into a blender with your normal protein shake concotion. The next time you are in the kitchen, I am sure some ideas will come to mind. The creative chemistry between cannabis and cuisine comes so naturally. Get your apron on and get in there! Bring a friend or a group to enjoy some amazing meals and conversation. There is so much more to marijuana than I had originally thought back in the day. People who prefer not to inhale smoke or vapor can benefit greatly by reading a trying recipes like the ones mentioned. I hope that these recipes encourage you to bust up some bud and get creative.
